Brooklyn is Huge
I'm not originally from New York, so I'm not terribly familiar with all of the boroughs yet. I spend the majority of the time in Manhattan - where our office is and where I lived for the first few years. I've had friends in Brooklyn, but I'd just go visit and we'd go to a bar or a restaurant, and then I'd go back to more familiar parts. Long story short, I never really explored Brooklyn as a neighborhood. Turns out it's huge.
We had a very eclectic shoot in Brooklyn. We spent some time in very dapper neighborhoods, but washed it down with trips to Coney Island and DUMBO - much more casual places to spend a few hours. There aren't many places in the world where you can have a beach and thriving boardwalk AND a quiet brownstone neighborhood AND an artists' haven AND a massive, green park AND an urban shopping district - among others.
Speaking of Coney Island - what an awesome place to go see. Sadly, a lot of Coney Island is slowly going away, but we were fortunate to be able to catch a sSideshow act, get a Nathan's Hot Dog (in between the hundreds Joey Chestnut shovels down), and walk along the boardwalk. On the weekends in the summer, it's pretty crowded, but the beach is still a nice respite from the madness of Manhattan.
I was a tiny bit concerned when making plans to shoot in Brooklyn that it would be difficult to find places interesting and interested in having us. Sometimes, the mystique of television wears thin in major metropolitan areas, but the folks in Brooklyn couldn't have been nicer and couldn't have been more gracious. I can't wait to go back in a capacity other than work.
Hi Samantha, My daughter, Chelsea, and I met you in San Francisco, CA a few months ago at Macy's. You gave her tips on Rio etc. which were of great help. Chelsea was going to Brazil while I was going to Peru and later we met up in Argentina. Well, Everything was fabulous. She loved Brazil and I loved Peru. In Argentina, we had a great time in Buenos Aires and Mendoza. We enjoy your shows and hope to meet you again. Thanks again for your helpful tips. Happy Trails, Kathy Bowman
Hi there: My hubby and I are avid watchers of your show and it plays a big part when we're planning our annual trips. Along with the great places you visit, your wonderful personality is what truly makes the show such a joy to watch. I would like to take this time to invite you to explore the amazing island of Barbados. I'm originally from Barbados and make it a priority to go back every year. I think you would thoroughly enjoy the island and find loads to do and an extremely flavorful culture & people. Additionally, if we happen to be there at the same time, I would love to show you around, take you to the places that Tourist may not know exist, and have you experience a traditional meal at my family's home. Again, we love your show, keep up the excellent work!!
Hello: Loved your show on DUMBO as I grew up in Park Slope but now live in AZ.I will never erase the show which I taped...want to go back but prices in Brooklyn are out of reached in the last few years. Thanks so much for this little slice of Brooklyn.... Like all your shows.

Hi there I enjoy watching all your shows. I first picked up in 2005 with Passport to Europe, thank goodness because it was a big help when I headed to Europe a few months later! I like the Brooklyn show, but could we get an episode on Philly? Not from there, but it is my favorite U.S. city :-)Or maybe you could hit up a little piece of history in Fredericksburg, Virginia, most historic city in the U.S. George Washington, Hugh Mercer, Walker Grant, Battle of Chacellorsville, Gari Melchers Belmont, Chatham Manor, Kenmore Inn, Mary Washington House. It is an undiscovered gem. Life long resident what can I say :-) Thanks
Does anyone know where I can watch this Brooklyn episode online, or when it will re air on Travel Channel? I am from Brooklyn, loved the destinations that she chose, and want to check out my fellow neighbor Mrs. Brown's "Great Weekend", in the tastiest and hippest borough outside Manhattan.
I found this bit of information on the web about NYC and the food. I am trying to find an equally good one about Brooklyn?? Any ideas of research sites that list these details? Thank you

Hi Samantha, I have a quick question. Some time ago you did an episode where you were in New York City and you visited several hotels. One of which was the Library Hotel and there was another one that I cant recall the name of it but I do remember that when you came to check in you had to put your palm on a detection device that established your mood and then chose a room that would be a good compliament to it. By chance do you remember the name of that hotel? Thanks so much. I've googled the describition and hav come up empty handed and my hope was that maybe you remembered. Thank you.
Hi Samantha,
Watched your show today on Brooklyn, and loved seeing the different areas (again!) I lived in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn (6th Ave.), from ages 11 to 18 and can't believe how the area has changed, for the better it looks. Wasn't really bad before, but on 5th Ave, looks like there are a lot more trendier and nicer shops. That use to be a more Italian section years ago. I'd like to go back someday and visit all those 'shops'! Thanks for all your shows that show us all the great places to see, eat and shop!!

COSTA RICA! I raised my kids there & my ex is from there. I go back about every two years! There is much to see and plenty to do...you can always find some town that is having "fiestas" for some saiant's day, or something and the town of Sarchi is so known for it's decorative painting and wood items. I lived in and hope to go BACK to live in - Heredia, not far from the airport and beloved for it's beautiful women, coffee plantations and flowers.
I'd love to show you around, as I am super-fluent in Spanish, and have many many active friends - including my ex's family who adore me - who are always in touch via emails and phone. Heredia has Hotel America right in the center of town...accessible to every single part of the nation, it is a good 'jumping point', and you can bargain for your prices the more nights you stay. Go to the bars and have bocas...it is delicious and comes with your drinks...I just can't wait til I get the money for my ticket to move back...even my ex who is Tico, living in Tampa, knows how much I love his country...I even know the national anthem and so much history, since my kids went through school there & I helped with homework, I, too learned much. Wonderful people, lovely views, and great rate of exchange.
When in New York go to 67 Burger...yummo, or can't I say that here?? LOL

Love your show JVM
Sam, did you "Shoot The Freak"?
Nice show on Bklyn. As a 56 year old Brooklynite (born and raised) living in Bklyn Heights for the past 25 years or so, it's always interesting to watch my home turf being visited. I'm just a little amused that you focused on Grimaldi's as the best pizza, when any Bklynite would have chuckled and sent you to DiFara's (or one of the other 2 or 3 hotly debated "best"). But... nice to know you've settled here and married a local. See you around.
glad you liked brooklyn. visit us soon again
Sam:

Samantha,
Love watching your shows ~ just watched your one on Brooklyn,N.Y(again). I lived in Brooklyn for about 8 yrs. (from age 11 to 19) in the Park Slope section. Seeing the show brought back memories of shopping on 5th Ave. Glad to see they've brought back a lot of shopping after a decline for a while there. Would love to go back and check it out after seeing your show.
