Injuries I Have Sustained in the Last Six Months of Production:

  • Sprained ankle (flip- flops, meet slippery wet floor.)
  • Concussion (oh, hi there, steamep pipe.)
  • Sprained wrist (I ...don't even know.)
  • Poison ivy (tip: don't use a cheese grater on it.)
  • Food poisoning (ugh.)
  • Sliced fingertip (I still have no feeling there.)
  • Seasickness (that was fun.)
  • Broken toe (poor little lefty.)
  • Strep throat
  • The flu
  • Allergic reaction to antibiotics for said flu (insult, meet injury.)
  • Broken blood vessels in both eyes (sexy!)
  • A wide variety of bumps, bruises, scrapes, and scratches
  • Fire- ant bite (oh my god, that was painful.)
  • Burnt hand (Kids, listen to your science teacher. Microwave'd glass is hot.)
  • Waterslide rash (I swear.)
  • Rug burn (ow ow ow.)
  • More sunburns than I can count.
  • Not to mention all the times I've bruised my pride.

And thanks to L.A., I'm charred once again. After a day of shooting on the beach, I'm in a state. I've got on two shirts, a hat and SPF 65, and I still look like I took a ride under the broiler. You know those sun charts that tell you how long you have until you burn? I have pale skin, red hair and blue eyes; add all that up and it just says DON'T LEAVE THE HOUSE. SERIOUSLY. I'm not even supposed to get too close to the toaster. Or a photo of the sun, if we're being honest here.

Upon returning to New York, it's itchy, painful and ... well, you don't need to hear the rest. I'm a veteran sun-burn-er, but this ain't right. I immediately visit My-Brother-in-Law-the-Doctor, aka Dr. Danny. He takes one look at me and, shaking his head, says I've bested myself and now have sun *poisoning*. Guh?

I always thought sun poisoning fell under the same heading as the girls who complained of craaaamps every time we had to run the mile in gym class -; it wasn't real. Nope, says Dr. Danny, you've been poisoned. Slather yourself in this ointment (ew), and stay away from the windows.

Six days later, I get off the couch, and I've molted, leaving a Lesley-shaped outline behind. Season two, I'm getting a Travel Channel beekeeper outfit.

Huge fan of you! I love your list... because it's usually pretty true for me, too. Not the sunburn thing... but somehow I end up with paper cuts when there is no paper and bruises when there is nothing around and especially while on vacation I end up getting headaches... from, you know, my own fun at the bar.

Like my Dad always says, "no pain, no gain" And some of us definitely endure more than others! If you ever need an RN to travel along with your crew to take care of all those bumps, bruises, scrapes, burns and whatever else nature throws your way along your travels, I would love to offer my help!

Poor thing... Stop going in the sun. Can't the producers put you in front of them Green Screen things and pretend you are on the beach?? Take care and thanks for doing such a great job

Its a quick remedy for wound. If it happens like small hit of some hard object - swelling, apply egg-white. It works like plaster and heals like top-class medicine ! Try, you may call me a doctor.

    Samantha,
Yikes. Next show - Passport to Great Emergency Rooms? I'm imagining your next travel stop will be somewhere that you can naturally work in a flak jacket and a med-evac team.
Best wishes for you and yours on the road ahead,
    Bosh

I taped your weekend in Paris, but don't see a blog for it. So I printed off the list of locations and will be travewling there this Tuesday. It is my favorite city and look forward to checking out all the spots you visited. I am looking forward to the chocolate mousse the most. Thanks for the tips, and if you ever want to retire, let me know, I will take your place anytime. Maybe even if you need a sick day off.

PINK DRESS PINK DRESS PINK DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY DAUGHTER IS DYING FOR ME TO FIND YOUR PINK DRESS FROM YOUR NEW TV ADD! Oh and by the way... white vinegar works amazing when you soak a bath wash cloth with it and place it directly on a sunburn. Instant sunburn relief...but it does stink till you shower. Leave it on for at least 1/2 an hr. Keep reapplying to continue relief.

I just watched your adventures in Austria and Iceland this morning. If you want to avoid sunburn, perhaps you should invest in some Bullfrog. I was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tucson, Arizona and El Paso, Texas, and was never sunburned because of Bullfrog.

    micaela fagan - April 12 2009 @ 6:46 pm

    hey samantha,
my name is micaela and i am 12 years old. ever since i first saw your show i fell in love with it. for the past two years ive stuck to wanting the same career, which is a long time for me and i don't think that i'll ever change my mind even with all of the injuries you've aparently got. so as you can tell the job that i want more than anything in the world is yours. my friends all think that i'm a nerd for watching the travel channel and all, but i don't care. i LOVE learning about different places. i think that my favorite episode of yours was when you went to scotland. you made me want to go there soooooooo bad! i even came up with the name for my show. "get ready, jet set, go with micaela fagan" pretty awsome huh?? well i guessi just emailed to say that i think you and your shows are awmazing! and i really want to know how you got the job that you have now. o want it more than anything.

    love,
one of your biggest fans ever,
    micaela

    Richard Slowey - April 26 2009 @ 2:13 am

Okay I'm laughing histerically - not because I'm sick and twisted, just because I have SO been there, so many times! I would almost think you were my lost twin sister. You're one up on me with the fire ant bite, but have you yet experienced the *pure joy* of a jellyfish sting? If your team ever decides to do a show in San Diego, I'll buy you all a drink for ... empathy?

I'm glad to know that an experienced traveler can still get seasick, I thought I was just a dummy when I forgot my meds on a nice, calm day that turned into a stormy one. Say, I got rug burns too back in my younger days...you little naauughty!!

Lesley, Don't forget about your EYES! Even though we live in California, the first time we went to Hawaii, my red-headed husband's eyes swelled shut...and we hadn't even gone to the beach! Be sure you have DARK glasses if you are shooting on or near water!
