Last time I was in Montreal was when I was 13. It was a business trip for my father and we all tagged along. I don't remember it that well except for one very vivid memory. My parents bought me a really cool outfit that was mustard yellow and charcoal grey. It was a sophisticated ensemble that would betray any New Hampshire Mall purchase and make me stand out in 6th grade.
Montreal is a dead ringer for Europe and we are visiting at a time when due to dollar/euro conversion rates more people are looking for European alternatives. The two are so similar that even though flight time from NY to Montreal is a whopping two hours with no time change I still feel tired. I have phantom jet lag triggered by European architecture and the smell of cigarette smoke.
Being a more international city the sport of choice here is Cricket. Well, that is of course after Ice Hockey. We head to a playing field on the outskirts of the city to join a league already in play. My attention is completely distracted by a homeless kitten that has wandered out of the bushes and has begun to play with whomever will give her attention. The players are concerned with the little kitten getting walloped by the ball and chase her away others show no sympathy and just want her to go. It's a totally heartbreaking scene. Christina, my stylists, is bound and determined to get the little girl a home. My feelings are torn -- where's the mother? Will mom cat miss her baby when she doesn't come back? But working at an animal shelter I know that kittens and puppies get adopted and then those animals are fixed and that helps stop the cycle of homeless animals. Christina has convinced a lovely cricket player whose girlfriend has a little girl (what better way to win her over than with a kitten?) So our work is done. As we were leaving we see another little kitten come out of the bushes. Ugh.
Hey OMG, can't wait to see a Montreal episode! And I'm so glad for the lil kitty kitten,, and the others too haha.
Samatha - Have never been to most of the places you visit so I will make this short to go tune in on your Montreal show. Would like to know if Guatemala is on your schedule. Going to do a little bill fishing, hiking, and visiting Antigua and Lake Atitlan. Would love to hear and see your expierence there. Let me know if by chance its on your list. Keep the great job up - you make it so much more than dreams by your casual appearance and presentation. If you ever need help-let me know.... Thank you for your time

Hi sam,
This is Sudhnya Amrita Islam from Bangladesh.I love your show very much and i am a regular viewer of your show. I can remember that i used to watch the Great Hotels on Discovery channel when i was very young. My parents and i sit together just to be overwhelmed by your mindblowing performance and jolly welcoming hosting. I think you enjoy your profession and it's just lovely to do such job.....i wish i could get sauch a dreamjob like yours. Best wishes for you and your upcoming episodes. Now i just hate to miss any episode of Passport to Europe, The credit possibly goes for your awesome presentation, I love the show and I love you too samantha........
Sam,
I love your show! Your quirky sense of humor is much appreciated. I visited Montreal in the early 80's to see the Drum Corps International World Finals at the Olympic stadium. My buddies and I had a great time (and met up with a bunch of French students from Minnesota in the hotel room next door - all girls - Woo-Hoo!)
We watched Drum & Bugle Corps and went sight-seeing by day and partied with the girls at night. With the 18 year old drinking age we enjoyed quite a bit of Molsen and Labatt's! The Notre Dame Cathedral was awesome! Also, the local people were very friendly and helpful to us. Being from Indianapolis, it was the same big-city small-town hospitality we grew up with.
I would love to return today with a much larger travel budget to enjoy more sophisticated dining than the fast-food, pizza and stadium food we had on that first trip.
Sam,
I home recovering from abdominal surgery and I just wanted to tell you that your show has been a lifeline to me. Every episode transports me to another place where I feel relaxed, happy and able to heal. Thank you for sharing your time and talent.
I LOVE your shows! I think the Europe episodes are my favorites, since I really want to go there someday, but they are all great. Will you ever do a show where you take a fan, like Anthony Bourdain did? (Because I would love to win!) To travel and eat and explore for a living sounds wonderful. You are very lucky.
Hi Ms. Brown,
I have watched your shows with my wife and three kids for several years. We first saw you in "Great Hotels" and have followed you on the Travel Channel since then. While we have always enjoyed your shows, I am feeling, as of late, a little disappointed in the content of "Great Weekends." We've had to skip several bits of the latest ones due to what we consider inappropriate material for out sons. One example was in the Florida Keys show during the lingerie portion. Another thing that bothers me is that we're not really given the benefit of seeing the geographical features of the places where you go, but are instead shown the inside of various bars and other questionable locations. Anyway, I just thought that you'd like to know.
God Bless...
Sorry for the typo in that last post. "Out" should have been "our."

Is that ALL you have to say about Montreal?? Such a diverse and dynamic city and all you have to tell is that you encountered some kitties -outside of Montreal?
